The EDFA300S(X) from Thorlabs Inc is an Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier that operates at a wavelength from 1530 to 1565 nm. It provides a saturated output power of over 24.5 dBm with a small signal gain of over 40 dB and output power stability better than ±2%. This randomly/linearly polarized amplifier has a polarization extinction ratio of over 25 dB and less than a noise figure of less than 6 dB. It has an input return loss of over 50 dB and I/O isolation of over 30 dB. This amplifier can be controlled manually via its front panel interface or remotely via a USB interface.
The EDFA300S(X) operates in constant current control (ACC), constant power control (APC) and constant gain control (AGC) modes. These modes of operation allow the user to control the amplifier for a fixed pump current, output power level or fixed gain value. The amplifier automatically adjusts the pump current, gain and output power according to the fixed value parameter to maintain the other target values.
The EDFA300S(X) requires an AC supply of 100-240 V and consumes up to 20 W of power. It is available in a benchtop module that measures 250 x 300 x 122.2 mm and has a SMF-28-J9 fiber with 2.0 mm Narrow Key, FC/APC connectors.
